Recently, Xiamen Solar First Energy Co., Ltd. (Solar First) launched the construction of a 7.2MW floating photovoltaic power station project in Lingao County, Hainan Province. The project uses the newly developed TGW03 typhoon-resistant floating photovoltaic system and is expected to achieve full capacity grid-connected power generation on April 30. After the project is completed, it will provide Lingao County with approximately 10 million kWh of clean electricity every year, injecting strong impetus into the local green energy transformation.
Adapting Measures to Local Conditions: Solving Construction Problems in Complex Waters
During the preliminary investigation, the project team found that the depth of the area was different, there was a large height difference between the water surface and the ground, and the surrounding rock walls were steep, making it difficult to implement traditional anchoring methods. Faced with this challenge, Solar First and its partners quickly launched technical research, and finally developed a customized solution:
- Developed a deep-water dedicated floating system to enhance structural stability
- Designed a special anchoring device to adapt to the rock wall terrain
- Used a modular installation process to overcome the construction difficulties under high drop height
Technological Innovation: Typhoon-resistant Design Escorts Green Energy
Hainan is a typhoon-prone region in China, and the annual average times of occurrence ranks among the top in the country. To this end, the project selected the TGW03 floating photovoltaic system designed specifically for coastal areas, which has the following features:
1. Low-gravity-center structure: The floating body adopts an integrated molding process to lower the overall center of gravity and resist strong wind impact;
2. Flexible connection technology: The elastic hinge structure between modules buffers the wind and wave pressure to avoid rigid collision;
3. Intelligent operation and maintenance system: Equipped with an intelligent adjustment system, it monitors the system status in real time and remotely controls the power generation efficiency.
“This system performed well in the 50m/s wind tunnel test and fully meets Hainan’s disaster prevention requirements.” The project technical leader said.
Green Empowerment: Contributing to Hainan’s “Double Carbon” Goal
After the project is completed, the annual power generation is expected to reach 10 million kWh, which can meet the annual electricity demand of about 4,000 households, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 8,000 tons. In addition, floating platform can also reduce water evaporation, inhibit algae growth, and achieve “photovoltaic + ecology” dual benefits. The person in charge of the EPC pointed out: “This project is Hainan’s first photovoltaic demonstration project on deep-water rock wall area, which is of great significance to promoting the layout of distributed energy in this province.”
Efficient Collaboration: 50 Days to Sprint to Full Capacity Grid Connection
Since entering the site on March 10, the construction team has overcome unfavorable factors such as the rainy season and terrain, and adopted a parallel operation mode of block assembly and segment anchoring to greatly improve efficiency. The project manager of the EPC said: “We have mobilized a professional floating solar installation team to ensure high-quality completion before April 30.”
Conclusion
Solar First’s 7.2MW floating photovoltaic project is not only a model of technological breakthrough, but also demonstrates the company’s determination to respond to the country’s “double carbon” strategy. With the grid connection of the project, Hainan’s green energy matrix has added new forces, providing a “Hainan sample” for the development of floating photovoltaic system across the country.
Ms. Zhou Ping, General Manager of Solar First, said that the company will continue to deepen its presence in Hainan’s new energy market and plans to expand more “photovoltaic +” innovative application scenarios in the future to contribute more green energy to the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port and the National Ecological Civilization Pilot Zone.
