According to TaiyangNews, the European Commission (EC) recently made a high-profile announcement of its "REPowerEU Plan". And the renewable energy targets under the "Fit for 55" framework have been significantly raised - the target for the proportion of renewable energy by 2030 has been increased from the original 40% to 45%.
Under the guidance of the REPowerEU program, the EU has set ambitious photovoltaic grid connection targets:
• 2025: Over 320 gigawatts (GW)
• By 2030: Further leap to 600 gigawatts (GW)
New policy for mandatory photovoltaic installation
To accelerate the achievement of the goal, the European Union has decided to legislate to mandate:
• Starting from 2026, all new public and commercial buildings with an area exceeding 250 square meters must be equipped with photovoltaic systems.
• Starting from 2029, all new residential buildings must be equipped with photovoltaic systems.
• Existing public and commercial buildings: Starting from 2027, the installation of photovoltaic systems will be mandatory for existing public and commercial buildings with an area exceeding 250 square meters.
These mandatory installation policies will greatly promote the integration of photovoltaic technology with buildings (BIPV). For instance, the projects that Solar First Group is involved in building in Europe cover various forms such as BIPV roofs, BIPV curtain walls, BIPV carports, and smart street lamps integrated with photovoltaic systems.
These innovative application forms perfectly meet the requirements of the EU's new policies for the installation of photovoltaic systems in different types of buildings, especially public and commercial buildings. They not only comply with regulations but also effectively utilize building space resources, contributing to the achievement of the ambitious installation target of 600GW.
